By Shaping the hole like I did, gently curving to the right with a trap in the right hand side and some trees near the tee, the imagainative golfers could place the ball wherever they wanted on the fairway. The valley allowed their length to pay off as well. The trick is the second shot. By tucking the pin behind the Natural Bridge, I created a visually pleasing green and make a fade or high backspin mandatory. The palm tree to the left of the guy riding in the cart assured non-imaginative golfers would just be able to hit a straight ball to just before the valley thereby forcing them to reach the green in no less than three shots. An additional Palm Tree in front of the green between the two sand traps forced more imagination. Finally, the big trap itself guarding the green made the non-length golfers require a third shot to reach the green (assuring no birdies from them) and additionally added imagination points to the hole. This shows that you dont need to overload trees around the tee/green. Really two trees are the key. Just some strategic use of trees & traps can accomplish all the goals necessary to create a Classic Par 4 golf hole. |
