The little palm trees next to the tee (see arrow) dont seem like much, but they force a fade off the tee to make any distance at all. Placing firm fairway about 180 off the tee and a valley allows the long, imaginative hitters tons of distance off the tee. The narrow area around the trap penalizes inaccuracy. If a long hitter manages to put a ball in that throat next to the trap, he can fade the ball into the landing area just before the green. The one tile of firm fairway assures him a good bounce and roll up to the precariously placed pin. But again, accuracy is a must to reach this in two. The water cost the inaccurate golfer another shot. The short hitters can just make it to the throat of the fairway trap in two and must make four shots to reach the green. Same with the no-imagination golfers. This risk/reward scenario is a sure-fire Classic Par 5...... |
