holetrack1.jpg (57588 bytes) This is initial tee/green placement of hole #9 on this course. The initial hole routing reading is this:

Hole #9
406 yards
Par 4

The orientation is dogleg right

holetrack2.jpg (60515 bytes) Since I want the hole to be a dogleg left, I need to manipulate the hole routing. By placing a tree near the bend, I have manipulated the hole routing yardage & orientation....

Hole #9
401 yards
Par 4

Orientation is straight

holetrack3.jpg (60753 bytes) If I place a few fairway tiles where I want the hole to change direction halfway out, the hole routing line has changed to the Dogleg Left that I am trying to accomlish. In addition I also manipulated the distance to better rating for my overall yardage total.

Hole #9
420 yards
Par 4

Orientation is Dogleg Left

holetrack4.jpg (61471 bytes) Here I just finished the overall fairway layout and the hole is now roughed into the proper look and route I wish this hole to take

Hole #9
420 yards
Par 4

Orientation is Dogleg Left

holetrack6.jpg (64901 bytes) A few pieces of Firm Fairway has changed the distance from 420 yards to 440 yards. Another way you can adjust the rating to meet your demands with the provided tiles

Hole #9
440 Yards
Par 4

holetrack7.jpg (56706 bytes) Changing the angle of view and adding trees in this screen. Now I am playing with the powerful elevation tool. By raising a few squares one height level, the yardage has changed again...!!

Hole #9
459 Yards
Par 4

holetrack8.jpg (58863 bytes) Some more work with the terrain tool has changed the hole routing. Even though no fairway or trees were added, the terrain changes have made the bend later in the hole and added to the yardage total....

Hole #9
464 Yards
Par 4

This hole started as a 406 yard par 4 Dogleg Right to ending up a 464 yard Dogleg Left. There are many ways you can manipulate this hole routing both in direction and distance. Fairway tiles, hazards & the ever powerful elevation tool are ways you can make a hole read and be played the way you want it to be played. It is important to pay attention to the hole routing and open the hole only when you are satisified with its orientation. Opening the hole prior to that will confuse the golfers and wreak havoc with your ratings.
